It outlines the number of performers who delivered within different ranges of \'Units of Dental Activity\' (UDA) \r\n\r\nTo see this data broken down by region, please go to the [Regional performer by unit of dental activity (UDA) delivery for financial years 2016-17 to 2022-23](https://opendata.nhsbsa.net/dataset/regional-uda-by-performer) dataset.\r\n\r\nOn 7 February 2024, the government and NHS England published the paper: [\'Faster, Simpler and Fairer: Our Plan to Recover and Reform NHS Dentistry\'](https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/our-plan-to-recover-and-reform-nhs-dentistry) (dental recovery plan), in which a commitment was made to consult on the proposal for a ‘tie-in’ to NHS dentistry for newly qualified dentists. The purpose of this dataset release is to better inform the public on the amount of NHS dentistry being delivered through UDAs by dentists, to support informed responses to this consultation: [Proposal for a ‘tie-in’ to NHS dentistry for graduate dentists - GOV.UK](https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/proposal-for-a-tie-in-to-nhs-dentistry-for-graduate-dentists).\r\n## Overview of Service\r\nA UDA is in essence a unit of activity, and is used within NHS contracts to describe the value of a dental course of treatment. For example, a dentist performing an examination would claim one UDA, while a dentist performing a course of treatment to create a crown for a patient would claim 12 UDAs. ‘UDA’ has a consistent definition across all NHS dentistry contracts, and can therefore be used to assess activity delivered by different performers. \r\n\r\nDentists’ income from NHS care is funded by contracts negotiated with the NHS, structured around UDAs as a measurement of their activity, and the amount of care delivered. The HRT PPC can be purchased online or in person at some pharmacies. It exempts patients from NHS prescription charges for HRT medicines that are licensed to treat menopause in the UK. \r\n\r\nIf the HRT medicine is listed but taken for reasons other than the menopause, patients can still use an HRT PPC. \r\n##Data Collection \r\nData is collected from the submission of digital and phone applications to the NHSBSA. Pharmacies can also sell HRT PPCs to patients. Pharmacy applications are then submitted to the NSHBSA for processing and reimbursement. \r\n\r\nApplications to pharmacies may be submitted to the NHSBSA up to a month after application. \r\n##Data Source \r\nNHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) Data Warehouse\r\n## Time Period \r\n1 April 2023 – 31 December 2023 \r\n## Geography \r\nThis data is for England only. \r\n## Caveats \r\nThe certificates have been grouped based on the issue month of the certificate and not when the certificate is valid from. \r\n\r\nThe number of certificates includes issued certificates only, excluding any that are pending, failed, or subsequently cancelled due to user error. \r\n\r\n## Citation \r\nNHS Business Services Authority.
