The Vaccine Damage Payment Scheme (VDPS) provides a one-off, tax-free payment of £120,000, to claimants who have been found in rare cases to have been severely disabled by a vaccine for one of the diseases listed in the Vaccine Damage Payment Act 1979.
The VDPS is not a compensation scheme. A claimant can still seek damages in court.
For more information about the VDPS, eligibility criteria, the claim process, and the independent medical assessment, visit:
• Vaccine Damage Payment Scheme (VPDS) | NHSBSA
• Vaccine Damage Payment: Overview - GOV.UK
Under the Vaccine Damage Payments Act 1979, a claimant can only apply if the vaccine was administered in the UK (which includes England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales) or the Isle of Man, or if they were given a vaccine whilst serving in the British Armed Forces.
Management of the VDPS
The NHSBSA operates the VDPS on behalf of the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC). DHSC remains responsible for the policy and legislation that governs the VDPS.
We have operated the scheme since 1 November 2021. Before this date the VDPS was managed by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) on behalf of the DHSC.

VDPS claim data
The NHSBSA is the owner and controller of VDS claim data. The data we publish includes VPDS claims received and held by the NHSBSA, including claims transferred by the previous administrator, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
The data includes all VDPS claims, including claims made in respect of Coronavirus (COVID-19), adult flu and other diseases listed in the Vaccine Damage Payment Act 1979.
Data definitions
Concluded

Successful
Number of claimants that have been notified they are entitled to a vaccine damage payment.
Unsuccessful
Number of claimants that have been notified they are not entitled to a vaccine damage payment.
Unsuccessful (causation)
number of claimants that have been notified they are not entitled to a vaccine damage payment because the independent medical assessor recommended that, on the balance of probabilities, the vaccine did not cause the disability in question.
Unsuccessful (disability)
number of claimants that have been notified they are not entitled to a vaccine damage payment because, although the claims met the criteria for causation, the independent medical assessor recommended that the vaccine has not caused severe disablement. ### Awaiting medical records
